Rethinking Google’s New Sign-Up/In Page
2024 • Concept • Designer/Content Creator
Google came out with its newly redesigned sign-in page back in 2024, and a considerable number of people were discussing it negatively online across various platforms. I decided to seize the opportunity and undertake a complete redesign of the page, sharing my thoughts and insights on the new design in a video format. I uploaded the content on TikTok, and the results I observed were truly fascinating and sparked quite a conversation.

Problem
😡 Negative sentiment from the public
The new Google Sign-Up/In page has received a significant amount of negative feedback from users. Many find the design to be cluttered, making it difficult to navigate through the required fields. Overall, the new Sign-Up/In page doesn't instill confidence in its usability, and these concerns seem to outweigh any potential benefits it may offer.
Final Redesign
Recognizing design challenges that can create opportunities
I conducted a design audit of the new design and layout and identified several design patterns that make the design appear unfamiliar and awkward. I identified these issues and propose a new design to enhance readability and ensure that it follows Jakob's law.
Outcomes
Gathering feedback from my TikTok audience
I posted the redesign on TikTok, and it gained quite good traction. Many people commented that they find it hard to navigate the new design, but they also provided feedback that the redesign feels like the old design. The feedback varied, but I was really happy that the design can spark people's emotions and start a conversation that can lead to better product improvements.
“This is cool, a Google-level designer must be open to criticism for iteration. Keep it up, bro! 🔥”
